SNOUT: The rock opera
A cyberpunk romp about super pigs designed for war but who are instead sent to a Saturn moon to be trained as pets. They learn to play music and goof about until war breaks out and they're called up to fight.
Treating it like another game, the pigs drive the military crazy with their silly antics, until a brutal attack reveals war's true nature and they rebel. The pigs steal a spaceship and are pursued across the galaxy towards a final standoff that rocks everyone to their core.
SNOUT features local musicians and an original score by South Australian composer and published author Malcolm Sutton, who cut his teeth on London’s West End.
With existential humour akin to Red Dwarf and Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, this world premiere is progressive music at its best.
Please note: This event has had a change in ticket pricing since the Adelaide Fringe Guide was printed.
Presented by: Box City Theatre
Box City Theatre was launched in London by Adelaide writer and composer Malcolm Sutton. Its inaugural work, Episode One — part-funded by famed West End producer Cameron Mackintosh — played on the London fringe during 2003.
Returning to Adelaide, Box City Theatre produced two more works on the Adelaide Fringe. This included Inanimate Eats Rage in 2010, and an earlier, experimental version of Snout in 2011 (a completely different show to its latest production, SNOUT: THE ROCK OPERA).
There was a hiatus while its founder wrote and published two novels — The Fake Jesus, published in 2021, and most recently, Twitchers, which was published by Puncher & Wattmann in 2024.
Box City Theatre returns to the Adelaide Fringe in 2026 to premiere a major new rock opera featuring Sutton’s original music.
