Melanie Walters’ performance career includes playing beer bottles and party whistles on ABC Classic, performing in an ensemble dressed in paper in a Massachusetts art gallery, and marching in the 2000-piece band at the Sydney Olympics. Influenced by her misspent youth playing in flute ensembles and hammering out modernist music on the piano, she now specialises in performing 20th and 21st Century flute music.
She received a Dean’s Commendation for her PhD in flute performance and has performed for organisations including Musica Viva, Bang on a Can, COMA, and the Australian Flute Festival. As well as playing regularly as principal flute of the Adelaide Wind Orchestra, she can often be heard making strange, improvised sounds in venues like The Metro, and on ThreeD Radio.
