Damer Madar
The play Damer Madar (Goddess of Breath) by Natyam Repertory delves into themes of devotion, tradition, and conflict during the Baisakhi festival. It follows Zarina Bibi, leader of the Madar devotees, and her granddaughter Nurbanu, who grapples with balancing religious duties and personal desires. Nurbanu’s resistance to marriage, rooted in her commitment to Madar’s teachings, creates familial tensions and sparks conflict with Rashidul Chowdhury, an extremist opposing Madar worship. The play culminates in a dramatic confrontation by exploring faith, tradition, and societal change. Damer Madar has been performed 71 times, including at 23 international festivals in India and Bangladesh, such as Bharat Ranga Mahotsav and Ganga-Jamuna Natya Utsab, highlighting its cultural significance.
