ARA AHAHA

Comedy

ARA AHAHA brings together big name comedy stars as well as upcoming talent for an afternoon of hilarity dotted with meaningful conversation. A charity gala with a difference, please join us as we celebrate the non-discriminatory language of laughter.

100% of proceeds from the event will go to programs for Australia's newest arrivals.

Through this charity comedy gala, we hope to break down the stigma surrounding some of the world’s most vulnerable - those seeking refuge, hope and a new life. Through laughter we are able to approach controversial and often taboo subjects in a new light, allowing audiences to re-evaluate their perceptions and opinions. In the words of Mark Twain, “the human race has only one really effective weapon and that is laughter.”

Performers will touch upon themes of race, diversity and multiculturalism here in Australia and the role politics and media play in shaping our acceptance and understanding around these topics.

ARA - Empowering courageous people

Presented by: Australian Refugee Association

The Australian Refugee Association (ARA) was established in 1975 and has since worked to enable refugees and other new arrivals to settle in Australia with independence and dignity, and to develop and achieve their aspirations and opportunities in life. ARA's mission is to help refugees become settled and participating citizens of Australia. We believe in the capacity and desire of refugees to be productive citizens through contributing to social, cultural and economic life in Australia. ARA provides services in the areas of settlement, migration, youth, employment, social activities and support, community education and skills development. ARA aims to be a holistic service provider, ensuring that all new arrivals have access to a full range of settlement services.
