Adults Only

Music
Queensland • World Premiere

On stage for “Adults Only” there’s just me, Karen J White, chatting and singing; mostly I’ll accompany myself on guitar, one or two songs on keyboard, and a few songs will be karaoke style to my own professionally produced backing tracks.

I was originally inspired to produce my own show by attending Lorna Luft’s one woman show (well, ‘one woman’ apart from the orchestra accompanying her!) ‘Songs My Mother Taught Me’ (her Mum was Judy Garland); my new show could well be subtitled ‘Songs Your Mother Wouldn’t Let You Listen To’.  I’ll sing a great mix of cover songs from around the world, containing a variety of ‘adult themes’, ‘sexual references’ and a smattering of ‘coarse language’ and with good luck and a fair wind, a great time will be had by all.

Presented by: Karen J White

Me in a nutshell? I write a few songs, sing a lot of covers, play rhythm guitar and occasionally keyboard; OK, lots of people do those things. What makes me different? My choice of songs, that’s what. My ‘Quirky’ moniker was bestowed upon me some years ago in Port Douglas; I was introduced as ‘This is Karen – she’s our Quirky one!’ The name stuck, and hopefully that means I’m someone who is ‘unusual in especially an interesting or appealing way’ (as per the Merriam-Webster online Dictionary definition of ‘Quirky’) rather than the Urban Dictionary definition – ‘A word often used by narcissistic scenesters when they describe their oh-so-unique selves in attempts to sound like interesting people.’ Hmmm. You decide. Anyway, I’m definitely odd.
