Adelaide Fringe Review - WERK IT
Words by Your Local Hok
You better WERK IT hun, in the office, in the gym, on the construction site, in the classroom, and on the dancefloor. Controlled chaos and sassy circus brilliance is what best describes this show.
Circus Trick Tease bring you WERK IT, a circus, physical theatre, and comedy show packed full of jaw-dropping acrobatics, hilarious sexual tension, and endless sass.
There are shows which gradually build-up their intensity as the show goes on, but not with WERK IT. An explosion of energy and intensity is present right from the get go, with their sporadic moves and skills dominating the stage. The music is pumping and the moves are vast, so don’t take your eye-off the stage for even a second.
They’ll be giving you the middle finger and telling things to F-off, but it’s all taken light-heartedly and you can sense their carefree attitudes as they amaze you with their strength, agility and funky costumes.
Some of the acts are hilariously reminiscent of the Aerobics Oz Style home work-outs that were on Channel ten at 6am in the morning each weekday, back in the 90’s and early 2000’s.
WERK IT has plenty of stand-out acts throughout the show, but what stood out particularly was when one of the performers juggled a table using their feet whilst lying down, when three performers stood on top of one another, and when one performer twirled multiple hula-hoops simultaneously.
This show will be memorable to you for Fringe seasons to come, and you’ll be telling your friends and family about it afterwards.
If you want entertainment, satire, amazing circus, active-wear, butt-shaking, and kween-like energy, you’d better see WERK IT (aka twerk it).
