Tonight at the 2022 Adelaide Fringe I saw the wonderful play Property Rites by the Wings2Fly Theatre group who are an award-winning youth theatre company based in Adelaide. Although being a youth group I found the production to be professional and very well produced and acted. The play was written by a very prolific American playwright Alan Haehnel and it plays like an episode of Twilight Zone which is one of my favourite TV shows.

All of the actors were very convincing in their roles and I fully expect to be seeing them all again in new shows in the future. The show is about a high-tech work of art that consists of human-like figures that can be programmed to perform thousands of movements, dialogues and more. When the robots start to show autonomy it seemed to me to be a perfect play for youth theatre as it mirrored the questions younger people ask themselves about living their own life and leaving their families.

Tonight was my second show tonight at this year’s fringe. I find that the Holden Street Theatre complex really lends itself to multiple shows on the same night as you have a place to sit, eat and drink between shows. Wings2Fly have recently announced a partnership with Holden Street Theatre which mean that they are the resident youth theatre company for the venue which will hopefully mean there will be many more thought-provoking and well-acted shows in the future.
