Adelaide is often blessed with an astonishing array of touring African musicians this time of year, largely due to Womadelaide. However with that festival understandably taking a different tact for the 2021 edition, fans of African music have been provided with a great opportunity to support and celebrate the music of the local diaspora at this year's Fringe Festival. Manadi Lopa's African Chillout enjoyed a sold out Fringe season and delivered a musical experience those fans have come to expect in March.

Set in a beautifully lit, lush and spacious suburban backyard, African Chillout had an atmosphere that was part festival and part house party. It proved to be an ideal backdrop for Manadi Lopa's laid back Ghanaian Zongo and Reggae originals. The four piece band grooved through two fantastic sets that oozed with positive messages and infectious rhythms, the crowd unable to resist the urge to dance and given the opportunity, to join in song. The show ended with a heart warming rendition of Bob Marley's "No Woman, No Cry" seamlessly transitioning into Manadi Lopa's latest single "Be Happy", leaving the sell-out crowd with smiles on their faces.

African Chillout was without a doubt a five star Fringe Festival experience. The unique setting, beautiful tunes and positive energy of the event made for a truly wonderful evening. The Fringe season may have ended but be sure to keep an eye out for this band bringing the good vibes around town.
