Talented performer and singer Lisa Woodbrook returns to Adelaide Fringe 2024 with her show It’s Not Me, It’s Definitely You: Songs of Amy Winehouse & Lily Allen. Woodbrook discusses the delicate and hilarious dangers of modern dating, using power ballads and angry anthems as punctuation for her stories. She shares anecdotes and banters with the audience between songs. Her charisma and vivacity on stage are irresistible. She shares relatable and blunt stories from her dating history. These include her sex life, ghosting and the pitfalls of break-ups, and the constant pressure to marry thanks to her Italian side of the family. From dancing with friends to dirty talk, every story leads into her next song. Every punchline lands perfectly and the audience rarely stops laughing. Woodbrook could not have chosen better artists to provide the soundtrack. The confidence and powerhouse voices of Winehouse and Allen compliment Woodbrook’s own undeniable style. She makes the song lyrics her own, dramatising some lines while lingering on others, whether to emphasise her previous point or make a knowing joke with the crowd. Even while singing, she has the audience in stitches. The songs by Lily Allen include: The Fear, 22, 5 O’clock, and As Long As I Got You. The songs by Amy Winehouse include: You Know I’m No Good, Love is a Losing Game, and the iconic Valarie. Woodbrook’s bold and beautiful voice easily echoes over the accompanying keyboard. It would be wonderful to hear her perform with a full live band and even broader song list. If you enjoy sultry songs and raunchy slice-of-life humour, then look no further. Indulge in Lisa Woodbrook’s original show and learn why It’s Not Me, It’s Definitely You.
