I'm always excited for Strut & Fret productions, they inevitably cement themselves as a highlight of the Adelaide Fringe season. This year, despite its name, was my first time watching their headline show: LIMBO - The Return, but it was a no-brainer to go and watch following their previous productions such as "LIFE The Show," "The Party," and the unforgettable "Blanc de Blanc".

The performance commenced with the typical charm and infectious energy you would expect from a Strut & Fret production, and the show presents itself as a showcase of it's ensemble's talents. From beatboxing to mesmerizing instrumentals, gravity-defying aerial acts, adrenaline-pumping tightrope stunts and oozing sensual, seductive flair. All the while keeping the audience engaged, unsure whether to gasp, laugh or stare on in awe.

And just like other Strut & Fret productions there is an ambiguous, artistic narrative that is left largely to the imagination of the attendee. Previous productions have told their stories through a more linear, tangible plot, however I found that the show itself was at times a little too abstract for my taste. The tricks, however impressive, didn't quite carry the same enjoyment as other shows either. Still, this could just be because I'm a regular audience member of Strut & Fret's shows. My guest was just as awe-inspired as I've found myself time and time again during an evening of Blanc de Blanc.

Despite its flaws, "LIMBO - The Return" offers flashes of brilliance and moments of sheer entertainment. While it may not reach the heights of its predecessors, it remains a commendable effort from a company renowned for pushing artistic boundaries and captivating audiences worldwide.
