Every decade has music and artists that helped define the music industry during that time. The Cast Entertainment have put together a sixty-minute celebration of some of the greatest music that came out of the 2000s in the Fringe show So Fresh! Hits of the 2000s.
During the 2000s, how many of you collected the So Fresh! CDs loaded with the latest chart toppers? So Fresh! Hits of the 2000s takes this concept from CD to stage. Chloe Castledine and Winston Howard lead a highly entertaining celebration of some of the biggest bangers to come out of the 2000s. Howard’s velvet voice perfectly suited to the RnB numbers in the show, where Castledine’s signature belt took hits like Evanescence’s Bring Me To Lifeand The Killers’ Mr. Brightside to a whole new level.
RnB music was a huge influence of the 2000s and So Fresh! Hits of the 2000s really taps into this, with a large portion of the set list paying homage to great RnB artists such as Rhianna, J-Lo and the queen herself, Beyoncé.
A huge highlight of the night was when Castledine sat at the keyboard and performed a medley of some of the gentler hits of the 2000s. Coldplay’s Yellow, Nelly Furtado’s I’m Like a Bird, Vanessa Carlton’s A Thousand Miles, and Train’s Drops of Jupiter (Tell Me) had the audience singing along.
Dave Goodwin led an impeccably tight band that weaved with ease between each number. It was great to be able to hear everything — I attended another performance in the same venue a few days earlier and the sound balance was not the greatest. However, the mix for So Fresh! Hits of the 2000s was spot on.
The whole show was lifted by four extremely talented dancers from Impact Entertainment. Choreographed by Shenayde Wilkinson-Sarti, the tight choreography only lifted the performance.
Put on your wide leg jeans and baseball jackets, and slip on your Nike Air Jordans and bucket hats and get out to see So Fresh! Hits of the 2000s. It is a fun trip down memory lane if you were a child of the 2000s. With hit-after-hit performed by one of Adelaide’s best acts, it certainly is a ‘must see’ as part of the 2024 Fringe season.
