Physicist-turned-magician Kevin Quantum brings an evening of light comedy, illusions, and showmanship to the Adelaide Fringe, combining the sciences of psychology, chemistry, and mathematics with magic in his engaging show.
In the May Wirth tent, Quantum’s stage is adorned with a Broadway-style display of the words ‘next trick’, which creates the backdrop for the scene changes between each new illusion. He claims some tricks are simple misdirection but all the illusions appear to be seamless and leave the audience astounded. After each successful trick, he breaks out into a comedic, celebratory dance, building the audience’s energy with colourful light displays and early 2000s music. Quantum even lets the audience in on how magic can be created from the ordinary. Fair warning Adelaide: Audience participation is integral to the show and Quantum selects many (sometimes unwilling) ‘volunteers’ from the audience to assist him.
With Quantum’s audience engagement, focus on kids and openness around the magic of science in creating illusions, And For My Next Trick is an ideal afternoon show for families with aspiring young scientists and magicians. Go along and discover the illusion of freewill with Quantum’s psychological card tricks and be awed by his chemistry-based illusions.
