A Evening with Phil Stack……

If you weren’t there …you really missed Something!

Sunset in the Spiegeltent immersed in Jazz Rock delivered by bassist Phil Stack with guest jazz guitarist James Muller. Talking serious talent. Stack, of course, is a founding member of Thirsty Merc, while Muller, running Jazz Studies here at the Adelaide Con, is equally known for an increasingly prolific suite of recordings.

It was moody electric controlled space. Two Masters  - with the stage dominated by the deep smooth polished growl that Stack pulled from his double bass.

Much of the program featured tracks from Stack’s 2020 debut solo album, Colourful, Noisy. (Actually his second, 43 year old Stack confessed, since the very first, now long forgotten, was launched when he was 18). Alternating between keyboards and the double bass, Stack crafted songs that were raw, honest – evoking times of despair, but always with a sense of hope. As the song titles demonstrate he took us with him from Redemption through to Celebrate Life

It was incandescent space. The setting sun streaming through the coloured glass windows of the Spiegeltent and reflecting ever outwards in the mirrored pillars.

A fitting finish was a tribute to John Lennon, a powerful influence on both performers, as they delivered Nobody Told Me There Would be Days Like This.

Nobody would have wanted to miss it!
