Australia’s leading vocal powerhouse Gospo Collective is back at the Adelaide Fringe with a performance that felt both moving and uplifting all at the same time. The show, Whitney – The Greatest Love of All, brought Whitney Houston to life through a reimagined chorus of her songs. The show was almost a mix of musical theatre and karaoke night, as audience members sung along throughout (not that you could hear them over the fantastic sound system). Gospo Collective flew through songs from the original “Queen of the Night” from the 80’s, 90’s and 2000’s – and it was fabulous. The powerhouse of the show who brought it all together was no doubt nationally renowned arranger, conductor and vocal performer Charmaine Jones. She smoothly guided an entire musical frontline of nine vocalists, backed by a choir of more than 60 talented singers and a five-piece live band through the performance. Her stage presence was five star and her vocals were angelic and soulful to match. She was made to sing Whitney! While Charmaine Jones is at the centre of it all, the other nine frontline vocalists also shone through. Together they sung the classics like I Wanna Dance with Somebody, The Greatest Love of All and How Will I Know all with perfect harmonies. Shout out to the band, specifically saxophone player Brandon who stole the show a few times. The lighting was A-grade, the sound was A-grade and the hour goes by in a flash! By the end everyone is up having a dance.
