Studio Vino are already well-established in Adelaide as a Paint & Sip venue, offering a variety of classes year round, but this Fringe, they are offering a special experience, teaming up with Princess Laya for a combined painting class/drag show. Three hours may seem like a long event, especially for the Fringe, but, believe me, you are kept busy! You are greeted at the door by Princess Laya and encouraged to go to the bar for a glass of wine (your first glass is included in the ticket price, with additional drinks available for purchase). We were guided through the evening by Gemma, our painting instructor, and Julia, providing drinks and additional paint when needed. Gemma provided clear instructions, demonstrating on her own canvas for each step, and giving everyone time to complete that step before moving on. You really do not need any painting experience here, as every step is explained, and you’re never made to feel stupid or ignorant if you haven’t done this kind of thing before. While the concept of the class was to paint your inner drag queen, Gemma encouraged patrons to find their own style, or to completely do their own thing, and creativity and individuality is encouraged and embraced. During the instructed part of the evening, Princess Laya interacted with patrons, offering encouragement and sassy comments, and then rewarding us with lively drag performances scattered at breaks in the painting class, featuring a range of bedazzled outfits and sexy pink heels. The mood in the room all evening was relaxed and fun, and everyone ended up with a canvas of their own artwork to take home. Studio Vino always offer a quality experience, and teaming up with Princess Laya for Paint Your Inner Queen is the perfect way to bring out your inner artist this Fringe.
