Two dancers suspended in a moment of stillness capture in black and white symbolising the great eagle Roc

KOWAW|Eagle

KOWAW meaning eagle in the Saisiyat language is an intimate contemporary dance duet by choreographers Szu Shih-Min and Yu Hsin-Hsüan. Rooted in Szu’s lived Saisiyat cultural memory and Yu’s visions of the Great Roc the work unfolds as a physical meditation on migration rupture and renewal. Through close bodily exchange shifting weight and cycles of approach and release two bodies trace landscapes of departure return and becoming. Rather than escaping limitation the dance moves through it seeking freedom grounding and a renewed sense of belonging in an ever-changing world.

Finalist at the 23rd International Choreography Competition Burgos & New York, selected as one of the three major choreographic works.

Winner of the First Prize at the 7th Festival Danza en el Camino 2025 in Spain.
