The best stories help you escape reality, but who says this is not a story based in truth? After hearing this monologue, full of intrigue and mystery, you’ll leave not entirely sure about what’s fact and what’s fiction. Main character John, played by the marvellous Thomas Robins, is a boy who no-one understands, except his Uncle Max. And when Max disappears at sea, leaving behind a cryptic book of maritime myths and legends, John makes it his life's mission to uncover what happened to his best friend.
Robins’ pace is impeccable and completely matches the urgency or serenity of the story, and there’s not an eye in the room that isn't glued to the action. Admittedly, the odd moment is lost when the sound effects overpower his unamplified voice, but that’s a small drop in a large ocean of excellence. This show elevates the art of storytelling, with Robins creating a perfect blend of fascination, excitement and joy.
