Firstly, a big thanks to the Adelaide Fringe team for the media pass to cover the season! Due to popular demand, the winner of Sweden's Got Talent, Charlie Caper, has returned to Adelaide with his magical show after another sell-out Edinburgh season.

Caper's likeable personality and witty humour immediately shined through at the show's beginning as he performed classic card and coin tricks. His energy quickly became infectious to the audience, who laughed and applauded along to the performance. Make sure to keep an eye out for the bowtie gag; it disappears multiple times and reappears in interesting places.

Admittedly, there can be a cynical side to watching magic performances as you try and analyse how the trick was done, but there were several surprises across the show. The teleportation tube segment was legitimately impressive as he'd switch the places of wine bottles and glasses or even make new bottles appear. There was also a Coke can trick that was jaw-dropping. The performance also led to a very clever smuggling joke.

Caper also incorporated some technology and gadgets into his show. The biggest highlight was his assistant, Sparky the mechanical dog. Whether or not there was someone behind the curtain that controls Sparky, Caper's showmanship made the robot dog feel believable as he performed flips and jumped through hoops. A little robot man also mimicked Caper's movements to A Perfect Day by Lou Reed, which led to a clever newspaper gag.

Overall, Charlie Caper—Magical brings together some belly-laughing entertainment with classic tricks and some technology gizmos. I can absolutely recommend checking out the Swedish Sorcerer while you still can.
