In her undeniable country drawl, Freddie Arthur explores her incredibly dysfunctional family dynamic with intelligence and humour.
Expressing the real difficulties she has faced, Freddie takes her therapy into her own hands and lays her soul bare for all to see.
Using her training in song and theatre the show is eloquently paced, moving along briskly instigating uproarious laughter and empathetic sighs from her audience.
The reality of what Arthur has overcome to simply stand on stage is not lost on the public. She is painfully honest using actual newspaper articles to add weight to the narrative. We meet incarnations of her family to really hammer home the impact they have had on Arthur.
However, through what she has experienced is an uplifting and very funny message, move forward and laugh about it. Find your people and you will find your stride.
Dysfunctional Family Jukebox is a show for anyone who has been through trauma and wants to feel seen, many of the audience that night, identifying with Arthur at differing levels. And once seen, Arthur provides the roadmap for how to look forward with humour and love.
This reviewer would not be surprised to see Arthur on a comedy tv panel show in the future, her manner making ease of dealing with the hard issues in life.
Catch Dysfunctional Family Jukebox if you can. It is well worth everyone’s time.
