2023 Impact Report

Adelaide Fringe has once again cemented its status as one of the world's leading arts festivals, generating $105.5 million in expenditure for the state of South Australia – a 40% increase on 2022.

2023 Key Facts and Figures:

  • Adelaide Fringe Program: 6,484 total artists, 1,340 registered shows, 517 venues
  • Over 200 grants totalling $1 million given out to artists, producers and venues
  • 4.5 million total attendances (40% increase from 2022)
  • 1 in 2 South Australians are estimated to have attended a Fringe event in 2023!
  • 45,214 visitors attracted to SA (41% increase from 2022)
  • 230,920 bed nights created (30% increase from 2022)
  • $3,420 average spend per visitor (51% increase from 2022)
  • Adelaide Fringe sold one million tickets in 2023 and was the first Australian festival to ever do so (1,000,916 tickets issued)
  • $25,100,000 total box office value (21% increase from 2022), with $24,000,000 paid out to artists and venues
  • $105.5 million total expenditure generated (40% increase from 2022)
  • $84.3 million in new money to SA (68% increase from 2022)
  • 9,813 direct and indirect jobs created (56% increase from 2022)
  • 140 volunteers with a total of 1,535 hours
