Update March 11

On 11 March, the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee issued recommendations regarding public events - specifically that:

The Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC), on the advice of the Communicable Disease Network Australia (CDNA), continues to monitor the effectiveness of current travel restrictions and self-quarantine procedures for travellers coming from mainland China, Iran, South Korea and Italy.

COVID-19 continues to spread globally with a growing number of countries experiencing sustained community based transmission and outbreaks. The travel restrictions and self-quarantine measures implemented by the Australian Government have been successful in reducing the number of cases detected in Australia and delaying the onset of community transmission.

The global epidemiology of COVID-19 continues to evolve. While there has been a decreasing number of cases in mainland China and South Korea, the situation and total number of cases remains of concern. There continues to be rapidly increasing number of cases in Iran and Italy.

Consequently, the AHPPC recommend that:

(1) the Government continue to direct primary focus toward domestic containment and preparedness of COVID-19, and

(2) that the Government maintain enhanced border measures and travel restrictions for the aforementioned destinations for a further 7 days, at which time this advice will be reviewed.

  • Public events should proceed as planned
  • people that are unwell with cough or fever or other respiratory symptoms should not attend public events or gatherings
  • people who have been in close contact of a confirmed case of COVID-19, or who returned from or transited through a listed higher risk country, must not attend public gatherings until 14 days after leaving the country or having contact with a confirmed case even if they are completely symptom free

Please note that Adelaide Fringe will not be providing any refunds or exchanges if consumers do not wish to attend an event due to fear of exposure to Coronavirus.

Live Performance Australia has advised that from 13th March, Adelaide Fringe should provide refunds or an exchange to any customer who may have recently returned from China, South Korea, Iran or Italy and have been advised to remain at home, or those customers who are from the aforementioned countries and are unable to enter Australia. Proof of travel documentation is required.
