Yinarr

• Solo show
Victoria • SA Premiere

'Yinarr' is a glimpse into the discovery and exploration of Gamilaroi Woman, Amelia O’Leary’s, journey with identity. Yinarr means ‘Aboriginal Woman’ in Gamillaraay Language.  In this iteration of 'Yinarr', O’Leary shares a raw physical depiction of her internal vortex of identity and sisterhood that ripples into the physical, digital and spiritual worlds.

Presented by: Amelia O'Leary and The Garage International

Amelia is a First Nations Gamilaroi woman from Northern New South Wales and has lived in Naarm, Melbourne for the past eleven years. O’Leary’s practice is grounded in the duality of power and softness. It breathes freedom and honesty of exploration and human experience, becoming a product of both the digital and physical realms. Amelia graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Dance from The Victorian College of the Arts (VCA) in 2021. Whilst at the VCA, O’Leary worked with Daniel Riley, Danielle Micich, Shinjita Roy, Anna Smith, Meryl Tankard, Vincent Crowley, Alice Dixon and Caroline Meaden. O'Leary has made multiple dance works including iterations of ‘Yinarr’ (Fan the Flames 2019 and Out of Bounds 2021) and ‘Evoke’ (Out of Bounds 2021 with Evocative Feminine Architecture). O’Leary has created several dance films including ‘Yinarr’ (Yirramboi 2020 and Dance Lens 2021), ‘Micro Toxic’ and ‘No Correct Way’ (Mudfest 2021). As an independent artist, Amelia is interested in creating her own soundscapes and projections as part of an integrated practice.
