Radial Quartet

Music • Contemporary
South Australia • Adelaide Fringe Premiere

Radial Quartet is formed by guzheng player Zhao Liang, drummer and composer Jarrad Payne, guitarist Dylan Marshall and double bassist Bonnie Aué. Their original work explores the sonic possibilities reached through a blending of their contrasting musical backgrounds.

Zhao’s skilful mastery of the idiosyncrasies of the guzheng are framed by Jarrad’s diverse percussive and electronic sounds, using automated looping and live treatment to enhance the acoustic properties of this compelling instrument. A treat for your ears, Radial Quartet will surprise and delight.

This show has been supported by the Adelaide Fringe Producers Grant for Zhao Liang.

Presented by: Zhao Liang

From Singapore, Zhao is an exciting and highly accomplished performer, with a heart for the community and touch of an artist. She is one of South Australia’s most grounded artists as her initiatives, projects and collaborations have been heavily focused within South Australia.

Zhao established the School of Chinese Music & Arts in Gouger St in 2005. In recent years, under the artistic direction of Zhao, the school has focused on community outreach through an oriental tapestry of music and arts. Today, through partnerships with schools, local councils and other organisations throughout greater Adelaide, it has also sought to deliver ground-breaking projects, mainly focused on families with young children, improving community well-being as well as for the disadvantaged.
