HOMER'S ODYSSEY - A MINI MUSICAL

Theatre and Physical Theatre • Musical Theatre
South Australia

In this unique adaptation Odysseus is an old man living in Ithaca who spends his time singing and telling stories about the Trojan war, the Cyclops, the underworld, the suitors, the Lotus Eaters, the sirens, his beloved wife Penelope and the demi-Goddess Circe who falls in love with him and forces him to be her lover. His parting from her, produces one of Loucas Loizou's most beautiful songs, 'Farewell to Circe'. The performance treats the audience as people who gather at his house to listen to him reminisce about his adventures.

Cat Stevens gave Loizou his first job singing in his family's restaurant when Loucas found himself as a refugee in London.

Odysseus writes a song for his soldiers to sing to overcome the homesickness and melancholia'. Count your blessings that could help all of us to overcome our melancholics. Smooth, unwavering voice and beautifully accompanied by exquisite classical guitar playing. Odysseus forced to become the lover to another beautiful demi-Goddess Calypso for seven years. Does sex-lust win over the power of true love and family? What do you think?
