Mary Trees (MT) was born to a social activist opera junky and a concert pianist. She decided early on to do whatever it takes to stop Gilbert & Sullivan permeating her brain, trying very hard to not become a musician. However, fate would have it that pianos continued to fall in front of her. She’s lucky to be alive!
Having studied jazz piano at the Elder Conservatorium, MT continues to be obsessed with the nuts and bolts of music; writing, and recreating in blues, folk and world. Under the wing of blues guitarist extraordinaire Cal Williams Jr, overseen by the wise sage Kory Horwood, MT has been steeped in an authentic tradition of old-time blues. Through percussion, guitar and vocals, MT delivers a raw sound that is compelling and original, providing homage to the early blues musicians.
