About the Adelaide Fringe Poster Competition

The Adelaide Fringe Poster Competition is as iconic as the festival itself. Each year, the winning poster encapsulates the love and pride that people have for Fringe. The winning poster will become the symbol of Adelaide Fringe 2023, with the artist receiving a $6,000 cash prize thanks to BankSA and free artist registration to present their own exhibition as part of the 2023 Adelaide Fringe. Previous winners include painter Mali Isabel, freelance digital illustrator Polina Tsymbal and multi-disciplinary artist Dave Court.

The Brief:

We are searching for a poster that represents  the ‘sunshine after the rain’, and showcases why Adelaide Fringe is THE only place to be this February and March!
Adelaide Fringe Director and CEO Heather Croall encourages people from all walks of life and experience levels to enter.

“Fringe is always such a magical time of year and in the last couple of years, it has really felt like the clouds have cleared to reveal magical and festive sun rays for us all to bathe in over the Fringe month. It would be wonderful to see a poster that celebrates that sense of ‘sunshine after the rain’ that Fringe provides,” said Heather.

“Adelaide Fringe is all about transcending traditional ideas, rules and ways to create meaningful new ideas, forms and experiences - Fringe is a massive collaboration involving thousands of participants and the poster designer is always a key part of the Fringe season.”

Tips for creating your design

●     The winning design will need to demonstrate flexibility in a number of different ways. This includes being reproduced in different sizes as well in monochrome (black and white). The design must have the versatility to be used in a number of creative applications, including t-shirts, posters, program booklets, banner signage and FringeTIX box offices.

●     If you use any images you haven’t created yourself you must own the copyright for the images or have permission to use them in your design.

●     Remember to treat the poster brief as guidelines only. Thinking outside the box is relished and encouraged!
