Adelaide audiences love it live
17/03/2008
Fringe CEO, Sandy Verschoor confirmed that over 187,000 tickets have been sold through the FringeTIX box office and their national ticketing partners.
Final box office income is estimated to reach over $5.3 million. The majority of the box office revenue is passed directly back to the artists who are part of the Fringe.
In addition to tickets sold through FringeTIX, tens of thousands of tickets are sold on the door at the 281 Fringe venues across the city.
This year the non-ticketed, free public events also proved popular. Family Day became Family Weekend and doubled in size and attendances. And Fringe Opening Night was the biggest free party Adelaide has ever seen.
Fringe Director, Christie Anthoney says, “I believe that Fringe festivals check the pulse of popular culture. We don’t choose who performs at the Fringe, the artists decide. It’s clear that audiences love getting out and enjoying live Fringe experiences. All in all it’s been awesome!”
Fringe Chair, Judy Potter says, “I would like to say thank you to all the audiences, artists and festival staff who have made the second annual Fringe so successful.
It’s the hard work and dedication of artists that make the Fringe special and I can’t wait until next year.”
Bank SA Managing Director, Rob Chapman says, “The Fringe continues to take centre stage in mad March giving Adelaide a cultural feast and significant economic boost. We’re thrilled to be part of such a vibrant event and there’s no doubt the community has embraced its annual dose of Fringe.”
Don’t be too upset! The Fringe is annual so we will see you all again next year for Adelaide Fringe 2009, Friday February 27 - Sunday March 22.
